Get a Full Rick/Cord Guaranteed!

Since October of 2010, Nashville Firewood has strived to give our customers the very best quality firewood at the most affordable price. Some of the competition may short you on your firewood purchase by upwards of 25% or more. A lot of times competitors will stack a rick just 6 inches short on the vertical and horizontal axis, this means you will be shorted by 18% (or 7.75 cubic feet of wood) and this doesn't even take into account if the wood is cut to a shorter length, or stacked loose as well. We have seen many of people over the years try to sell 1/2 or 3/4 as a full rick. One of the many things that separates Nashville Firewood from the competition is we give you a full rick, every time, guaranteed... we even throw in a few extra pieces each time just to be sure, if we make any error it's probably in your favor. But if by chance we do happen to short you by anything, we'll give you twice the missing pieces next time absolutely free! or refund you for the difference no questions asked.

Mixed firewood

Mixed firewood is a great choice for anyone that doesn't plan to burn many fires for longer than 4 hours and doesn't plan on using the wood for any cooking purposes. With the mixed woods blend of both hard and soft woods for both short and medium burn time, and most of them being relatively easy start, the mixed wood is best suited for those that are looking to save a few bucks and don't mind throwing pieces on the fire a little more often when burning longer fires. Recommended burn time 1-4 hours. Note: mixed is not recommended for cooking or for people with wood allergies due to being made up of sometimes ten or more different types of wood including hackberry, poplar, elm, persimmon, mulberry, locust, pine, cedar, maple, oak, ash, walnut etc.

Oak Firewood

Being one of our top selling firewoods, oak makes for an incredibly hot bed of coals, but what really makes oak so special is it has the longest burn time of any firewood in middle Tennessee. Oak's exceedingly long burn time makes it a great firewood for wood stoves and all-day campfires/bonfires. Due to its clean, low oil, water like sap, oak is great for people with lots of wood allergies; in all the years we have been selling firewood I've never met a single person that was allergic to it. Although oak has all these cool benefits it does have one major caveat, it can be incredibly difficult to start, especially with larger pieces (small pieces are relatively easy), and as such it can take up to 2 hours (in an indoor fireplace) to reach peak heat level, so we don't recommended it for fires shorter than 2-3 hours to get maximum efficacy benefits when burning. If you plan on using oak BBQ and need a specific flavor with also have both white and red oak options available. Oak is the wood for you if you need to get the most burn out of every buck!

Maple Firewood

If you want an all around great type of firewood that can heat, cook and smoke… then look no further than our blend of maple firewood; It burns hot and long, with verities that start easily and some that are a little tougher but have a longer burn time. Our maple firewood is made from a blend of all the major verities found locally here in middle Tennessee, including both hard and soft maple verities. Maple verities include: silver maple, water maple, sugar maple, and rock hard maple. Silver maple and water maple are both soft maple verities which come in at roughly 19 million BTUs per cord (3 Ricks), while sugar maple comes in at 26 million BTUs, and finally rock hard maple comes in at 32 million BTUs which makes it tied for 1st place of the hardest woods in the 48 continental US states which it shares with Osage Orange (aka Bodock, Hedge Apple). So if you're wanting a nice blend of hardwoods with some for shorter fires and others that are better for longer fires maple is where its at.

Ash Firewood

If you need firewood that burns hot and long but without the difficult start of Oak, then Ash might be the wood for you. Ash starts fast, burns hot, and makes little ash (no pun intended). Nearly every type of wood in the world follows one rule, for every pound of wood you have you will get a nearly identical amount of BTUs (heat units) as every other type of wood, but ash takes this rule and throws it out completely; despite ash only coming in at only 75% the weight of oak it puts off roughly 90% of the total heat units.

Walnut Firewood

Walnut is a great firewood for anyone wanting an easy to make, clean burning wood with a medium long burn time. We recommend it for anyone wanting medium to long length (2-5 hours) entertainment fires for either an indoor/outdoor fireplace or burn pit. Walnut is great for outdoor use because of the mild chemicals found in the walnut trees sap that acts as a natural bug repellent which will keep many insects from hiding in the wood or hanging around your fire; But probably the coolest thing about walnut is as it burns it will sometimes it put off a green flame due to its natural ink like coloring, much like the same affect when burning a full color magazine. Walnut makes for a great wood to use for semi-regular fireplace or burn pit use, that both keeps away insects and looks great too. Walnut is also great for cooking but we don't recommend it for in experienced and amateur cooks due to its strong bitter flavor and the fact that when cooking in close range it can emit low amounts of natural chemicals which can be harmful in large amounts. In summery walnut is a great wood for anyone wanting to try something a little different for a change especially when using it outside.

Hickory Firewood

Hickory is standard when it comes to BBQ here in the state on Tennessee. There are two common types of Hickory here in middle Tennessee, Shagbark and Butternut (sometimes incorrectly referred to as bitter-nut). Shagbark Hickory is the third hardest wood in the USA coming in at nearly 28 million BTUs per cord (3 ricks), and Butternut is not far behind at just under 27 million BTUs per cord. Hickory is best known for BBQ here in the south but it is also great for heating a home, especially with a wood stove. Hickory burns up to 3x longer and 2x hotter than our standard mixed firewood. A couple things to remember when buying Hickory is it has an incredibly short storage life and can dry out too much in as little as 6 months, Hickory also burns hotter when it's cut fresh, so we typically sell don't split our Hickory too far in advance to try to keep it as green/fresh as possible. We recommend any Hickory to be used within the first 3 months after purchase, but if you plan on taking longer than that make sure to cover your Hickory with a tarp or cover to help lock in the moisture and keep it from drying out.

Cherry Firewood

Cherry is one of the best firewoods for cooking and smoking BBQ. Cherry just like any other fruit wood has a much more distinctly different flavor/aroma compared to your typical non fruit smoking wood which all tend have a similar flavor/aroma. Cherry has a very strong sweet cherry fruit like smell which many people find to both looks and smell fantastic, it might just be our most attractive firewood we sell. Cherry is relatively easy to start, and burns extremely hot, but it does burn a quite a bit faster than most other hardwoods, coming in at 20 million BTUs per Cord (3 Ricks) compared to Hickory at 27-28 million BTUs. Cherry is not recommended to be used if you have asthma or are sensitive to strong smells because of Cherry's strong sent whether it's burning or not.

Bags of Kindling

Kindling is an essential part of starting a hot, consistent fire efficiently. Small blocks of dry, light weight wood is split into tiny pieces kindling to make for a fast ignition.

Quickly start your kindling by simply igniting some cardboard, newspaper, or tinder (small wood shavings) with either a lighter, match or just a spark, then add just a few small pieces of kindling on top. Once the kindling is burning add larger pieces of wood to the fire. Now that your fire is burning, you can sit back and enjoy the warmth and light. Using kindling to start a fire will help you get a hot, consistent fire going quickly.

Approximately 1.5 cubic ft of kindling per bag. When buying oak or walnut firewood we recommend purchasing about one bag for every 1/2 rick/face-cord of wood, for all other types we recommend about one bag per rick/face-cord.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much firewood can i fit in my vehicle?

• Cars/sedans usually can fit about 1/4 rick of wood stacked in the trunk.
• Small SUVs can usually fit roughly 1/4 rick to 1/3 rick of firewood.
• Mid size SUVs can hold about 1/3 rick to 1/2 rick of firewood.
• Full size SUVs can hold up to 3/4 ricks of firewood.
• 1/4 ton pickup trucks hold roughly 3/4 rick to 1 full rick.
• 1/2 ton pickup trucks can hold 1 to 1.25 ricks, as long as its not a 4ft bed.
• 3/4 ton pickup trucks hold up to 1.5 ricks.
• 1 ton pickup trucks hold up to 2 ricks.

Note: all of these figures are based on the 16in cut size.

Is your firewood split in half or quarters?

Our firewood is split from logs ranging from 5” to 55” in diameter, which means if we split say a 48" diameter log into quarters you would be left with a 24" diameter piece. so we try to split our firewood to a manageable size that you can easily pick a piece up with just one hand; usually it's about 2-4" diameter pieces.

Do I need fresh or seasoned firewood?

It all comes down to your personal use for the firewood; If you are smoking/cooking with your firewood, you actually need green wood so that it will put off more smoke and flavor then if it were dry. On the other hand if you’re heating your house with wood you will need it to be simi-seasoned for maximum heat, while you may want your wood to be dry for an easy start if you’re just having a short fire for entertaining.

How long does it take to season wood?

We have all heard it takes 6-12 months for wood to season… but that is only partially true, if you live in the northern United States and Canada. Because there are so many variables that go into drying firewood it may take longer to dry out if the wood is split in the colder parts of the year then the moisture won’t have any heat to evaporate the moisture in the wood, If it’s covered with a tarp, it may also take longer because air can’t circulate and the moisture can’t escape. Some types of wood (like oak) may take longer to dry out, while other types of wood (like hickory) may take far less time to dry out. We recommend for most wood to be split and uncovered for 1-4 months of 70º-95º heat for the best fire and heat results.
